Feldspar
Feldspar (sometimes spelled felspar) is a group of rock-forming aluminium tectosilicate minerals, also containing other cations such as sodium, calcium, potassium, or barium. The most common members of the feldspar group are the plagioclase (sodium-calcium) feldspars and the alkali (potassium-sodium) feldspars. Feldspars make up about 60% of the Earth's crust, and 41% of the Conventional open-pit mining methods including removal of overburden, drilling and blasting, loading, and transport by trucks are used to mine ores containing feldspar. With feldspar and quartz, there is plenty of overlap between colors. Since they are both highly abundant crystals, there are plenty of variations. In many cases, though not always, feldspar is cloudy in appearance, while quartz is clear. If you held up a piece of quartz to a light source, the light would shine through.Feldspar. Feldspar is the name given to a group of minerals distinguished by the presence of alumina and silica (SiO 2) in their chemistry. This group includes aluminum silicates of soda, potassium, or lime. Feldspars are hard minerals, all of them with a hardness of 6 on the Mohs scale. This lies between the hardness of a steel knife (5.5) and the hardness of quartz (7). In fact, feldspar is the standard for hardness 6 in the Mohs scale. Feldspars usually are white or nearly white, though they may be clear or light shades of orange or buff.Another diagnostic feature is the feldspars colour range. In this case, the colour typically ranges from white to gray. The main feldspars in this grouping include: Plagioclase Feldspar and Hornblende. Road cut on highway 515 East of Quadeville, Ontario.
